God's Love and the Dog Waiting at the Door
There are days when life feels heavy.
Days when prayers seem unanswered.
Days when our hearts carry burdens we can't explain.
Yet when we walk through the door, there is often one little creature who greets us as though we've just accomplished something extraordinary.
A wagging tail.
Bright eyes.
A joyful heart.
Our dogs don't ask whether we had a productive day.
They don't ask if we made mistakes.
They don't ask if we feel worthy of love.
They simply run toward us.
In those moments, many dog owners catch a glimpse of something deeper.
A reminder of God's love.
Not because God's love is exactly like a dog's love, but because our dogs reflect a small piece of the faithfulness, acceptance, and joy that come from Him.
The Bible tells us:
"We love because He first loved us."
— 1 John 4:19
Long before we had everything figured out, God loved us.
Long before we felt strong enough, faithful enough, or deserving enough, God loved us.
Long before we could return that love, God loved us.
Just as a dog waits patiently by the door, eager to see someone they cherish, God continually invites us back into His presence.
Not because we earned it.
Not because we are perfect.
But because His love is rooted in who He is.
Perhaps that's why dogs touch our hearts so deeply.
Their loyalty reminds us of faithfulness.
Their forgiveness reminds us of grace.
Their joyful greetings remind us that we are loved.
The next time a wagging tail welcomes you home, pause for a moment.
Let it remind you of the God who loved you first.
The God whose love never runs out.
The God who is always glad to see His children come home.
